Why Do Cam Sites Ask You to Verify Your Age?

The short answer

Laws in the UK, a growing number of US states and parts of Europe require websites with adult content to check that their visitors are adults. Cam sites comply in different ways: some check everyone before the adult areas, others only for certain features. It’s not a scam, as long as you verify through the site itself.

The laws behind it

  • United Kingdom: under the Online Safety Act, sites that allow pornography must use “highly effective” age checks since 25 July 2025.
  • United States: a growing number of states have passed age-verification laws for adult websites, and in June 2025 the US Supreme Court upheld Texas’s law.
  • Germany: German youth-protection law has long required age verification for adult content, which is why German sites like Visit-X check every user.

Staying safe

  • Verify only inside the site, through the provider it names. Never email or message a photo of your ID.
  • Check the address bar before you upload anything: the real site, not a lookalike.
  • Expect to verify once. If a site keeps asking for new documents for no reason, contact its support through the help center.
